Stone

Random Rubble Masonry

Undressed stones gathered from the site itself, laid dry with interlocking placement doing the structural work: no cement, no mortar except at key structural junctions.

At Titlie, the walls could be returned to the land they came from.

Application

Walls for gazebos, farm structures, and retreats; plinths and foundations beneath earthen walls; retaining walls, steps, and landscape structures. At Akashamittai, even a natural boulder became the foundation.

Composition

Site-sourced stone sorted by size: large bond stones tying the wall through its thickness, smaller stones packing the voids laid dry in the lower courses, with mortar only where structure demands it.

Comfort

High thermal mass flattens temperature swings, while dry-laid joints make this the most breathable wall possible; air and vapour move freely, creating spaces that feel meditative with light and air.

Features

Zero processing energy, completely fire-resistant, almost entirely reversible, and maintenance-free, the longest-lived element in the palette, with no two walls ever alike.
