Akashamittai

“A brutalist cabin anchored on a boulder, built to frame a view and hold it still.”

Material Palette & Technique

Brutally minimal and striking.

Structure & Skin - Red Brick

Exposed throughout, no render, no cladding. The brick is both structure and finish.

Interior Finish - Cement Stain

Pigmented cement applied directly to surfaces - no paint, minimal toxicity.

Exterior - Cement Plaster

Applied selectively to weather-exposed surfaces only. Everything else left bare.

Feature - A Glass Pool

Cantilevered over the front yard - a visual extension of the view rather than a separate amenity.

Akashamittai was named by the client after a character in their favourite novel. It is perhaps the most personal brief Landartistry has worked on, not a family home or a farmhouse, but an escape. A tiny cabin with a large ambition: to capture a specific view and hold it permanently in frame.

The site had a boulder. Rather than work around it, the home was anchored on it. The structure rose from the rock as if it had always been there. The architectural language is deliberately stripped back: exposed red brick, raw cement surfaces, minimal finishes. There is nothing superfluous here. Everything that exists serves either the structure or the view.

The glass swimming pool extending from the front yard is not a luxury detail; it is an extension of the framing device. Looking through it toward the landscape collapses the boundary between inside and outside in a way that no window could.
