“A home powered by the yellow: the sun and the mango trees, built from what the earth and its people could give.”
Compressed stabilised earth blocks - low embodied energy, locally sourced soil.
Patterned with locally made clay pots - reduces concrete use by up to 40%.
Clay pot vault with no concrete - earthquake resistant by form, not by mass.
Shallow brick vault - no concrete, natural thermal mass, remarkable structural efficiency.
Dyavaprithvi sits on one acre of land in Karnataka, and not a single tree was cut to build it. The home was designed around the existing mango grove, its orientation and form shaped by what the land already held. The name, meaning “between heaven and earth,” is not poetic license. It is a description of where the house actually lives, rooted in the soil below, reaching through three distinct rooflines toward the sky above.
The brief was anchored in a single conviction: that building this home should leave a smaller mark than doing nothing. Every material decision, from locally sun baked CSEB bricks and pots to refurbished fittings and solar panels, was tested against that principle. The result is a 3 BHK that generates its own energy, processes its own waste, and breathes through its roofing rather than consuming electricity to cool itself.
A small pond on the site has been designed as an ecosystem, not a decorative feature, but a functioning habitat that draws water, insects, and birds into the life of the home.
